MINUTES OF TOWN MEETING
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26, 2006

FIRE STATION

 

I.                  CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Donica called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.  Assembly members in attendance were Frank Hart, Mary Ann Closson and Freda Donica.  David Fairman was excused from this meeting.

Approval of Agenda:

 Frank Hart made a motion to approve the agenda as presented.
Mary Ann Closson seconded the motion. 
The motion passed with a three to zero vote.

Approval of Minutes of 01-25-06 meeting:
Mary Ann Closson made a motion to approve the minutes of the 01-25 -06 Town meeting.
Frank Hart seconded the motion. 
The motion passed with a three to zero vote.

II.               TOWN COMMITTEE REPORTS

1.     Architectural:  No report was given.

2.     Art Guild:  Connie Reynolds stated that their last meeting will be held on May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. in the library.  They will not meet again until the fall.

3.     Beautification:  No report was given.

4.     Community Fund:  Jacque Cooper said they are planning for the 4th of July festivities.

5.     Emergency Operations Planning:  Mayor Donica stated that a couple of meetings had been held to put together a plan on how the town should deal with disasters.  Andre Reynolds has been helping by providing assistance with the planning.

6.     Election Board:  Andre Reynolds reported that the board would be meeting tomorrow to discuss proposed changes to Ordinance 1999-4, the Town’s Election Ordinance.  The Board will also meet on Monday, May 1st to discuss the items that were turned into the Town Clerk’s office.

7.     Fire Dept:  Mary Wheeler reported that there had been 109 EMS calls since the beginning of the year, and there had been 19 fire calls.  Today Mary and Calvin took the ambulance and a fire truck down to the Cochiti Headstart for the kids to see.  Tomorrow they will be taking them to Cochiti School for the Bilingual class to see.

8.     Friends of Cochiti Lake Area:  Nancy Hart reported that the Friends had a meeting last night.  They are waiting to hear about the basketball goals.  Mayor Donica stated, they had been approved by the Architectural committee. They are working on hiring the Rio Rancho Symphonic band for the 4th of July festivities.

9.     Hospitality:  Marge Knightly described the basket that is given to new residents.  She listed the contents of the basket, a town license plate, items from the library, and a flier for the fire dept., a bottle to hold a list of medications that a person takes.  If 911 is called for an emergency to the home the EMTs have the information, a town directory.  Mary Ann Closson asked if a town voter registration slip could be included.  Marge stated that one could be included.

10.  Joint Commission:  Mayor Donica stated that she, Frank, Mary Ann and Joseph Suina met with Governor Crazyhorse and the Joint Commission would be reactivated.  The tribe wanted the Mayor to be one of the members from the Town.  The first meeting will be held on May 30th. 

11.  Library: Connie Reynolds gave the report for the Library.  The board is working on a preliminary report.  From July 1st to April 10th there were 941 patrons, 57 new library cards issued.  There were 4,141 visits by patrons.  707 children’s books were checked out, 433 people used the computers, and 2,136 videos and DVDs were checked out.  958 adult books checked out along with 148 audio books.  Friday night movies will continue throughout the summer.  There are three classes in the library, a creative writing course along with two computer courses. 

12.Rock and Mineral:  Marge Knightly stated they would be taking a hike up La Bajada real soon.  They are planning a trip up to Utah.

13.  Zoning:  Val Clough reported that there is one construction project and the committee will be meeting on Friday morning.

III.           TOWN HALL REPORTS

Mary Ann Closson: She had no report.

Frank Hart:  He had no report.

Freda Donica:  She reported that there would be an open Budget Hearing on May 8th in the Fire station at 7:00 p.m. and there were copies of the budget available in town hall. 

     IV.           ADJOURNMENT
                Mary Ann Closson made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
                Frank Hart seconded the motion. 
                The motion passed with a three to zero vote.
