Friends of Cochiti Lake Area

---

F

riends of Cochiti Lake Area, a nonprofit corporation, was founded in 2001 with the goal of obtaining funding from various sources for programs to enhance the quality of life for residents of the Cochiti Lake area.

As in previous years since the founding of our organization, we were able to stage Summer Music Festivals. In 2005 and 2006, we held three free concerts each year on the Town Green. These concerts were well attended. The diversity in music was attractive to the area, which includes Pena Blanca, Sile, La Bajada, and the Pueblos of Cochiti and Santo Domingo. It varied from jazz, to a symphonic band, to mariachi music, and included bluegrass and Native American music. A particular attraction of these concerts is our outdoor location. It allows the audience diverse ways of participation, from enjoying a picnic on a blanket to giving their undivided attention from a lawn chair.

In these past two years, we have had the opportunity to contribute commercial and foundation donated funds to the Cochiti Elementary/Middle School, the Irene S. Sweetkind Public Library, and the Great River Journal.

In 2006, we applied to a local foundation for the funds to sponsor a monthly series that will include our summer concert series, three Chautauqua programs, a health lecture, a wine tasting event, and a program on our surrounding environment. If we are fortunate enough to receive this grant, the series will begin in July, 2007.

In addition to the financial support of the Cochiti Lake Art Guild, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Prudential Real Estate of Santa Fe, The Tellurland Group, LLC, and TLC Plumbing & Utility Co., the efforts of our organization were greatly facilitated by many of the residents of the area, who donated money and their valuable time.

We finished the year with a balance of $7,958, with $900 committed to a project we started a couple of years ago, the basketball poles and nets. Steve Dennis of Mesa Steel has offered to help us complete this goal. With any luck, the summer of 2007 will see that project completed.

The Board of the Friends of Cochiti Lake Area thanks everyone who gave us their support and welcomes them to attend our monthly meetings, which are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month in the Fire Station meeting room. We also welcome new members to our Board. If you are interested, please contact a member of the Board listed on the front of this brochure.
